Equipolymers Completes Re-vamping of Ottana PET Train

Thu, 22 November 2007

Equipolymers has completed the construction of a state-of-the-art polycondensation line for the production and manufacture of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) at its production centre in Ottana, Italy. The new production facility started production on 1st November 2007. Incorporating the most advanced ZIMMER Technology in the melt phase polycondensation, the train operates in complete synergy with the existing BUEHLER solid state polycondensation plant, ensuring a seamless production process and consistent output quality. With the start of the new PET plant, Ottana’s PET production capacity increases to 150,000 metric tonnes per year, contributing to a total capacity of 485,000 metric tons per year, making Equipolymers a European market leader. “This expansion is part of the Equipolymers growth strategy and commitment to meet the continually rising demand of our European customers”, said Graham Fox, CEO and President of Equipolymers. “Completion of this investment means that we now have three highly competitive manufacturing plants in Europe with the Ottana facility having integrated on-site PTA.” About Equipolymers Equipolymers is a 50/50 global joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) of Kuwait, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and The Dow Chemical Company. Equipolymers manufactures and markets polyethylene terephthalate resins (PET), whilst producing purified terephthalic acid (PTA). PET is a high quality plastic for use in the packaging industry and in particular for the production of beverage, food and other liquid containers. PTA is a key raw material for the production of PET. Equipolymers serves customers globally and is headquartered in Horgen (Zurich), Switzerland. Production facilities include PET and PTA plants in Ottana, Italy, and two PET plants in Schkopau, Germany.
