| Subject: | Held at the MECC in Maastricht, where The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium meet, UTECH Europe 2012 is uniquely placed as the ONLY truly international event for this market. In 2009 UTECH attracted an audience of just under 3,000 decision makers from 85, and with the upturn in market conditions we expect UTECH Europe 2012 to be bigger and busier than ever.
Unique to Europe, and a reflection of the maturity of the industry in Western Europe, is the sheer breadth of the applications of polyurethanes technology in the region. This is unmatched in the world, with few industrial sectors seeing as much involvement of these versatile materials in their products. From tiny medical devices to the roof insulation of the highest skyscrapers, polyurethane-based product applications are wide and varied. This diversity gives the industry considerable resilience so that, even after the economic circumstances of the past few years, growth is already resuming.
The eastern European countries are rapidly growing as their economies expand, following the boost they have received since the opening up their markets. According to research from IAL this region will see polyurethane usage rise from 754,265 tonnes in 2009 to 924,690 tonnes by 2014,. The Middle East, too, is showing strong growth as various economies in the region expand strongly. PU usage here will reach 1,314,920 tonnes, well up on the 1,058,430 tonnes used in 2009.
